🌿 A Soft Passage: A Meditation for You and Your Senior Horse

to be read aloud, slowly, while resting a hand on their shoulder, heart, or neck

Take a breath…
Let the world soften…
Feel your feet on the earth, the same earth your horse has walked for so many seasons.

Now place your hand gently on your horse.
Feel their warmth.
Their breath.
Their steadiness.
Their story.

And say, quietly:

“We are here together.
You and me.
In this moment, we are safe.”

Let your breathing fall into rhythm with their exhale…
Like two hearts remembering they have always known each other.

Picture a warm light—soft gold, soft rose—gathering around you both.
The light of comfort, of memory, of loyalty.
The light of all the mornings, the rides, the brushes, the quiet moments in the barn.

And whisper:

“Thank you.
For every step you have taken beside me.
For every lesson you gave without speaking.
For every breath we shared.”

Notice the wisdom in their eyes…
The years they carry with such grace…
The softness of age that invites gentleness, not fear.

Let your heart say:

“I honor your body.
I honor your journey.
I honor the chapter you are in.”

Imagine now a wide, peaceful meadow stretching out before them—
a place where their spirit feels open and easy…
where nothing is rushed…
where every path is surrounded by love.

Hold that picture with kindness.
Hold your horse with tenderness.

And in your heart, offer:

“When you are ready for your next step—
on this side of the veil or the next—
I will walk with you.
I will listen.
I will love you through it all.”

Now breathe together again…
Slow and deep…
Anchored in connection.
Wrapped in gratitude.
Held by the same sky, the same earth, the same love.

End by placing your forehead softly against theirs,
or your hand over their heart
and say:

“You are not alone.
You will never be alone.
I am here.”

Let silence complete the meditation.
Let love do the rest.
